Dream Theater’s return to Jakarta wasn’t just another tour stop. It was a full-blown emotional reunion. As part of “An Evening with Dream Theater – 40th Anniversary Tour 2026,” the progressive metal giants reunited their classic lineup, with Mike Portnoy back behind the drum kit, in front of thousands of devoted fans at Beach City International Stadium (BCIS), Ancol.
For longtime followers, this night felt historic. After more than a decade apart, the musical chemistry between James LaBrie, John Petrucci, John Myung, Jordan Rudess, and Mike Portnoy was finally reunited on an Indonesian stage—something many fans once thought they’d never witness live.
The Return of Mike Portnoy: A Moment Fans Had Been Waiting For
Mike Portnoy’s comeback remains one of the biggest moments in Dream Theater’s modern era. His return officially began with the release of Parasomnia in 2025, but seeing him perform live alongside the band again brought a whole new level of emotion.
Jakarta became one of the standout cities in Asia to experience this reunion firsthand. From the very first notes, the connection between Portnoy and his bandmates felt natural—tight, powerful, and deeply familiar. For fans, it was a reminder of the era that shaped Dream Theater’s identity and legacy.
“An Evening With”: Three Hours of Pure Dream Theater
Staying true to the “An Evening With” concept, Dream Theater delivered a nearly three-hour non-stop performance with no opening acts. The extended set allowed the band to explore their catalog freely, blending classic material with newer songs from Parasomnia.
The show’s timing made it even more special, as February 7, 2026 marked exactly one year since the release of Parasomnia. The album symbolizes a new chapter for Dream Theater—one that reconnects their past and present.

Mid-performance, vocalist James LaBrie shared the significance of the moment with the crowd.
“We’ve just performed songs from our latest album, Parasomnia, released in 2025. And what makes tonight even more special is that today marks exactly one year since Parasomnia was first released. And here we are celebrating it with you, our lovely fans from Indonesia,” he said.
The crowd responded with massive cheers, showing just how strong Dream Theater’s bond with Indonesian fans truly is.
According to Anas Alimi from Rajawali Indonesia, bringing this reunion to Jakarta was a proud achievement.
“Tonight is proof that Dream Theater is not just a band, but a musical institution. We are extremely proud to facilitate this historic reunion in front of Indonesian audiences, who are known for their deep appreciation of progressive music,” he stated.
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience for Indonesian Fans
For many fans in attendance, this concert became a once-in-a-lifetime experience—witnessing the classic Dream Theater lineup reunited, celebrating 40 years of music, and embracing the Parasomnia era all in one night.
Dream Theater’s story is still being written. And for Jakarta, being part of this emotional reunion will remain a cherished chapter in the band’s long and legendary journey.
