Prambanan Jazz Festival #12 Opens with Music, Art, and Unforgettable Moments Under the Theme “Celebrate The Joy”

Yogyakarta, Indonesia — Against the breathtaking backdrop of the iconic Prambanan Temple, the first day of Prambanan Jazz Festival #12 set the stage for a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and togetherness. Returning with the theme “Celebrate The Joy,” this year’s festival once again transformed one of Indonesia’s most spectacular heritage sites into a place where creativity and happiness came alive.

The celebration began long before the first artist stepped onto the stage. Festivalgoers were welcomed through a striking entrance installation created by renowned Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho. Designed in a monochrome palette bursting with playful splashes of color, the installation stood in beautiful contrast to the timeless grandeur of Prambanan Temple. More than just an entrance, it served as a symbolic gateway into the festival’s imaginative world—inviting visitors to embrace the joy that awaited inside.

Music remained at the heart of the festival, with this year’s “Playing Jazz” concept encouraging artists to explore fresh collaborations across different genres. The Panturas joined forces with La Fontana Punks, while Perunggu shared the stage with Little Fingers, creating exciting musical fusions that captivated the audience. Rising singer Salma Salsabil also showcased a different side of her artistry by embracing jazz improvisation, adding a refreshing twist to her performance.

Beyond the main stage, festivalgoers found more intimate moments at the Langgam Stage, where artists connected directly with fans. Both Mocca and The Panturas took time to celebrate the release of their physical records while greeting supporters who had gathered to share the special occasion.

As the evening unfolded, nostalgia took center stage with a much-anticipated performance by Michael Learns to Rock. Performing their timeless collection of hits, the legendary Danish band united audiences across generations, filling the festival grounds with heartfelt sing-alongs and emotional memories that became one of the night’s defining highlights.

The joyful atmosphere extended beyond the performances themselves. One of the most remarkable stories came from the arrival of the Villains, a passionate fan community that chartered seven train carriages to travel together to Yogyakarta in support of their favorite artists. Their incredible dedication perfectly reflected the spirit of Prambanan Jazz Festival—a welcoming gathering where music brings together people from all walks of life.

The opening day of Prambanan Jazz Festival #12 beautifully combined world-class performances, cross-genre collaborations, immersive art, and genuine human connection. Every corner of the festival echoed its central message: joy is a universal language that transcends generations, musical styles, and cultural backgrounds.

With two more days still to come, Prambanan Jazz Festival #12 promises even more memorable performances, unique collaborations, and unforgettable experiences. As the celebration continues beneath the majestic silhouette of Prambanan Temple, the festival remains a testament to the power of music, culture, and shared happiness in one of the world’s most extraordinary heritage destinations.
