“Lembayung” marks Baim Wong’s debut as a feature film director. Before its official release, the film has already attracted interest from several countries. Baim Wong even received an offer from Hollywood regarding “Lembayung” .
Baim Wong revealed at a press conference at Epicentrum XXI on Friday, September 13, 2024, that the film will be shown on 300 screens across Indonesia. “What’s exciting is that six countries are interested in screening “Lembayung” ,” said Baim Wong.
One of the countries enthusiastic about the film is Malaysia. Instead of offering the typical horror with intense mystery and terror, “Lembayung” provides a more humanistic view, presenting a fresh take on horror from its visual style to its storytelling.
Baim Wong confirmed that the film will be shown in at least 300 theaters in Indonesia and in six countries, including Malaysia. “Malaysia was the first to request a screening there; four major distributors contacted me, eager to have it, partly because of Anna Jobling,” Baim explained.
The husband of Paula Verhoeven also mentioned that Hollywood has shown interest in his horror film. “I’ve already received messages from Hollywood; they’ve heard about it and I’ve shown it to them, but nothing is finalized yet,” Baim shared. “They are interested in the way the film combines horror with drama and thriller elements, as it’s rare to see a horror film that also makes you cry. Let’s hope for the best.”
The film features several notable actors, including Arya Saloka, Oka Antara, Taskya Namya, Yasamin Jasem, and Malaysian actress Anna Jobling. In “Lembayung” , the protagonists are haunted by a female ghost, leading to the revelation of dark events and mysteries hidden within a clinic.
