Film “Tebusan Dosa”: A Horror Drama about a Mother’s Struggle to Find Her Child

Wening (Happy Salma), a mother who has lost her child, embarks on a mysterious journey to uncover the truth. In the latest horror mystery film from Palari Films, “Tebusan Dosa,” viewers are invited to experience the relentless struggle of a mother. Confronted by darkness and fear, Wening must unveil dark secrets to find her missing child.

Directed by Yosep Anggi Noen, “Tebusan Dosa” tells the story of Wening, a mother who experiences a tragic event when her 11-year-old daughter Nirmala goes missing in a motorcycle accident on a bridge. The accident also claims the life of Uti Yah, Wening’s mother. Wening feels immense guilt over her mother’s death and her daughter’s disappearance in the river, yet she believes Nirmala is still alive. Tirta (Putri Marino), a podcaster, is interested in viralizing Wening’s tragic life.

With unwavering determination and hope, Wening searches for Nirmala, seeking help from Tetsuya (Shogen), a researcher from Japan, as well as Mbah Gowa, a mysterious shaman. However, during her search, Wening is constantly visited by the ghost of Uti Yah.

“Tebusan Dosa” is a horror mystery film that presents a touching story about a mother’s love, the resilience of women, and the mysteries that haunt life. Through Wening’s character, the audience is invited to feel the emptiness of loss, the anxiety of facing uncertainty, and the enduring hope. Her quest not only tests Wening’s physical strength but also her emotional strength as a mother.

Director Yosep Anggi Noen creates a chilling, realistic horror atmosphere wrapped in a strong drama. Through a suburban setting, Anggi Noen employs horror elements that stem not only from supernatural entities but also from complex life pressures. “I want the audience to feel the complex emotions of Wening’s character. Her struggle reflects that of many women who must fight through life,” said director Yosep Anggi Noen.

Happy Salma, who portrays Wening, delivers a captivating performance. She effectively portrays a strong woman amidst overwhelming pressure and hidden secrets. “Wening is a very strong and inspirational figure. I hope the audience can connect with her feelings and be inspired by her fighting spirit. Wening embodies resilience and the constant search for new possibilities, managing to endure any situation,” said Happy Salma.

Putri Marino, playing Tirta, the podcaster who assists Wening, adds her own unique touch to the film. Her subtle performance strengthens the drama, presenting a character of an independent woman who is also strong. “Through her journey with Wening, Tirta’s views on life, love, and affection change due to Wening’s experiences. ‘Tebusan Dosa’ has a fresh story and atmosphere, not just a horror mystery but also a strong narrative with drama. In addition to Happy Salma and Putri Marino, the film features Bhisma Mulia, Japanese actor Shogen, Keiko Ananta, Laksmi Notokusumo, and Haru Sandra. Produced by Muhammad Zaidy and Meiske Taurisia, the film is supported by the production studio behind the phenomenal South Korean horror “Exhuma,” Showbox. Palari Films also collaborates with Legacy Pictures, Sinemart, Phoenix Films, Kuy Entertainment, Infia, Volix, Stickearn & Ming, Mahiya, and Karma Club.
