KIFF 2024 has opened, here’s the lineup of not-to-be-missed movies at KIFF 2024

The Korea Indonesia Film Festival (KIFF) is set to return this weekend. This event, initiated by the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) Indonesia and CGV Cinemas, will showcase distinctive cinema from filmmakers in both Korea and Indonesia.

KIFF 2024 will take place from Thursday, October 31, to Sunday, November 3, 2024. For four full days, film lovers will celebrate the vibrant cultures of cinema from Indonesia and South Korea.

The festival will be held in three cities: Jakarta, Bandung, and Palembang. Screenings in Jakarta will focus on CGV Grand Indonesia, in Bandung at CGV Paris Van Java, and in Palembang at CGV Palembang Town Center.

Here are today’s film recommendations just for you:

Bori
Directed by Kim Jin-Yu, the film Bori is a refreshing addition to the Korea Indonesia Film Festival. Unlike others, Bori is independently produced by South Korean filmmakers. This film offers a different perspective compared to the usual blockbusters.

Bori tells the story of an 11-year-old girl who is the only hearing member in her family. She feels isolated because she is the only one who can hear. At one point, she seeks a way to lose her hearing.

Apres Girl
Directed by Kim Kwang-bo and written by Ko Yeon-ock, the 107-minute film Apres Girl is another refreshing entry in the festival, featuring a musical theme, which is rarely seen in Indonesia.

The film narrates the life of Park Nam-ok, the first female director in Korea, and her struggles to pave the way for women in the film industry. In the 1950s, being a woman in Korea came with significant challenges, including unspoken rules that restricted film production.

Beautiful Audrey
Beautiful Audrey explores family life in a modern society. It follows a boy named Ki Hoon who runs a noodle restaurant with his mother in their hometown, while his mother suffers from Alzheimer’s.

The film depicts a mother’s love and sacrifice for her child, even as she battles a disease that erases her memories. It will be particularly interesting as it brings together actors Park Ji-hoon and Kim Jung-nan. Beautiful Audrey premiered in South Korea in August 2024 but is making its debut in Indonesia at this festival.

Victory
Directed by Park Boem-soo, Victory is an eagerly awaited sports-themed film set in 1999, marking the comeback of Lee Hyeri. In this film, the Girl’s Day member plays a cheerleader.

The story follows a high school student named Pil Sun, who has big ambitions to become a dancer. He invites Mi Na to join their cheerleading club called Millennium Girls.

However, their cheerleading concept is quite different, focusing on dance rather than shouting. Their friendship and efforts to win competitions create an exciting dramatic narrative.

My Annoying Brother
For the first time, the opening film of the Korea Indonesia Film Festival (KIFF) comes from Indonesia: My Annoying Brother. Previously, opening films for this festival were always Korean productions. This is an adaptation of the same title from South Korea.

Directed by Dinna Jasanti, the Indonesian version will feature a different perspective as the story has been localized. It tells the story of a judo athlete who loses his sight and is cared for by his brother, who is a convict.

In total, KIFF 2024 will feature 19 films, consisting of 5 Indonesian films and 14 Korean films. Here is the film schedule:
