Indonesian actor and filmmaker Dimas Anggara is taking audiences into a darker world with his latest directorial project, Aplikasi Iblis, a horror film set to arrive in cinemas on October 15, 2026.

The upcoming movie promises more than supernatural scares. Blending horror, mystery, action, and drama, Aplikasi Iblis centers on a tragic love story and explores how grief and love can leave people vulnerable to manipulation.

“I tried to explore the horror genre through terror, mystery, and action, wrapped in a dramatic story that comes through the romance between Arya and Laras,” Dimas said in a press statement from NIH Pictures in Jakarta on Wednesday.

At the heart of the story are Arya, played by Junior Roberts, and Laras, portrayed by Dosma Hazenbosch. The two share a deep romantic relationship, but their love takes a tragic turn when Laras is killed after becoming the victim of a robbery.

Devastated by her death and unable to let go, Arya searches for a way to reconnect with Laras. His hope comes in the form of a mobile phone application that promises to bridge the gap between the living and the dead.

But what begins as an attempt to find comfort could instead open the door to something far more terrifying.

“Love and loss can make someone easy to manipulate. Arya is deeply devoted to Laras, but their love ends tragically,” Dimas said.

For Junior Roberts, playing Arya required more than simply portraying a man consumed by grief. The role also demanded physical preparation for the film’s action sequences, along with performances in scenes designed to deliver intense scares.

“Arya’s character required me to be physically prepared for the action scenes, while also portraying his sadness. There are also many terrifying scenes,” Junior said.

Beyond its supernatural elements, Aplikasi Iblis also touches on a real-world issue: the safety of women who work late and have to travel home at night.

Dosma Hazenbosch said Laras’ fate reflects the risks faced by many working women whose daily routines require them to return home after dark.

“There are many working women who go home late. Yet the environment can still be unsafe, to the point where Laras loses her life,” Dosma said.

She hopes the film can encourage audiences to look beyond its horror elements and reflect on the social issue at its core.

“It is heartbreaking, and I hope people can also see that Aplikasi Iblis is not just a horror film designed to scare audiences, but can also raise awareness for all of us,” she added.

Aplikasi Iblis marks another step in Dimas Anggara’s career behind the camera. He made his directorial debut with #OOTD: Outfit of the Designer in 2024.

With its combination of supernatural horror, mystery, action, romance, and social commentary, Aplikasi Iblis is set to offer audiences a horror experience that goes beyond the usual jump scares when it opens in Indonesian cinemas on October 15, 2026.
