JAKARTA, September 28, 2026 — Indonesian horror is about to enter a new dimension.

Directed by Rizal Mantovani, Kuasa Gelap: Perjanjian Darah from Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment is bringing Indonesian exorcism horror to a larger scale with its IMAX release. Set to hit Indonesian cinemas on October 8, 2026, the film combines supernatural terror, emotional storytelling, and a deeply personal journey of faith.

At the center of the story is Rephaim, an ancient entity that returns to demand the price of what humanity’s ancestors did in the past. Unlike the first film, however, the threat is no longer limited to a single family. Its influence spreads across an entire city, raising the stakes for the two exorcist priests at the heart of the story.

Returning from the first Kuasa Gelap are Romo Rendra, played by Lukman Sardi, and Romo Thomas, played by Jerome Kurnia. This time, both priests are forced to confront something perhaps more frightening than the supernatural itself: their own doubts.

When Faith Is Put to the Test

The story follows Daniel (Venly Arauna), a young man who becomes trapped in the consequences of choices made by his parents and grandmother.

As Romo Rendra and Romo Thomas attempt to save Daniel from Rephaim, their mission becomes more than an exorcism. It becomes a spiritual journey—one that forces them to confront their past, question their faith, and ultimately rediscover what they believe in.

The film explores a powerful question: What happens when faith begins to waver in the face of something that seems impossible to overcome?

For Romo Rendra, the struggle is especially personal. His past is explored more deeply in the sequel, revealing the emotional burden behind the exorcist who must continue fighting despite his own doubts.

Lukman Sardi, who returns to the role for the second time, says the character gave him an opportunity to reflect on the nature of faith itself.“The audience will be taken deeper into Romo Rendra’s background and his journey in confronting his past. These moments made me reflect on how people can sometimes experience doubt in their faith and question God’s power. The film reminds us once again of how great God’s power is in saving us from our doubts,” said Lukman Sardi.

A Supernatural Threat on a Much Bigger Scale

According to director Rizal Mantovani, Rephaim is not an ordinary supernatural presence.

The ancient entity is bound to the territory it controls, meaning its influence extends far beyond one household. This becomes one of the biggest challenges of the film: creating a sense of terror that encompasses an entire city.

“Rephaim wants to be worshipped by humans, with human lives as the price,” Rizal Mantovani explained. “It serves as a reminder that every action has consequences, including the sins we commit.”

That larger scope is also reflected in the film’s visual and sound design. With high-risk sequences, expansive visuals, and an immersive soundscape, Kuasa Gelap: Perjanjian Darah aims to make audiences feel closer to the terror unfolding on screen.

Horror with an Emotional Core

While supernatural horror remains at the heart of Kuasa Gelap: Perjanjian Darah, the film also places strong emphasis on its human characters.

Writer and producer Robert Ronny believes audiences can connect with characters who feel frustrated, powerless, and lost.

“We always want to make films that feel relatable to audiences. Given the situation in Indonesia today, I believe many people will relate to Halim, who feels frustrated and powerless and eventually loses his faith,” Robert Ronny said.

Through the characters’ struggles, the film explores the idea that even during the most difficult moments, faith can still be rediscovered.

The message is simple but powerful: what is hidden will eventually demand to be paid, but even in the darkest moments, there is still a way back.

From IMAX to 4DX and Magnify 8

The ambitious scale of Kuasa Gelap: Perjanjian Darah is not limited to its story.

The film will be available in several premium cinematic formats, including IMAX at XXI, 4DX at CGV, and Magnify 8 at Cinepolis, offering audiences multiple ways to experience its horror.

Executive producer Andi Boediman highlighted the significance of the film reaching all three formats.“Not many Indonesian films can be released simultaneously in IMAX, 4DX, and Magnify 8. All three formats have strict quality standards, and the fact that Kuasa Gelap: Perjanjian Darah has made it through all three is a statement about where Indonesian filmmaking can go. Indonesian stories deserve the biggest stage.”

An Ensemble Cast Returns for the Next Chapter

Alongside Lukman Sardi, Jerome Kurnia, and Venly Arauna, the film features an ensemble cast including Ferry Salim, Feby Febiola, Lydia Kandou, Sisca Saras, Keysha Angelica, Kiki Narendra, and Faiz Vishal.

Behind the camera, the film is directed by Rizal Mantovani and produced by Robert Ronny and Prima Taufik, with a screenplay written by Robert Ronny and Andri Cahyadi.

The production is led by Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment, with support from Legacy Pictures, SRN, Virtuelines Entertainment, WOW Multinet Pictures, Mokster Films, and Netzme Gateway.
