Suzzanna: Santet Dosa di Atas Dosa — An Epic Horror Set to Send Chills in 2026

Horror fans in Indonesia have something exciting to look forward to. The Suzzanna cinematic universe is expanding once again with the upcoming film Suzzanna: Santet Dosa di Atas Dosa, a darker and more intense chapter inspired by the legendary Indonesian horror icon Suzzanna.

Following the success of Suzzanna: Bernapas dalam Kubur (2018) and Suzzanna: Malam Jumat Kliwon (2023), the production house Soraya Intercine Films is back with a new story that promises deeper drama, stronger visuals, and a more cinematic horror experience.

A Teaser That Sparked Immediate Buzz

Excitement around the film surged when the official teaser trailer 2 premiered exclusively at JAFF Market 2025 in Yogyakarta. The teaser quickly drew attention thanks to the intense on-screen chemistry between its two lead stars, Luna Maya and Reza Rahadian, who appear to be on opposing sides in the story.

Unlike previous films that focused on the terrifying Sundel Bolong figure, this new installment begins with something different. Suzzanna is portrayed as an ordinary woman—at least at the beginning—whose life gradually spirals into darkness due to injustice and deep emotional pain.

According to Luna Maya, the film will deliver a much more elevated cinematic experience. This will truly offer a next-level cinema experience compared to the previous Suzzanna universe,” she shared enthusiastically.\

A Bigger and More Spectacular Horror

Directed by Azhar Kinoi Lubis, the film moves beyond traditional jump-scare horror and aims for a more epic and visually powerful style.

The teaser hints at large-scale scenes, including massive explosions, sweeping views of forests and rivers, and sequences involving hundreds of extras. The scale of production suggests a horror film that blends drama, action, and intense storytelling.

For Reza Rahadian, the filming process itself already felt monumental.Even during production, I could already imagine this becoming something epic,” he said.

He also noted the immense energy required for the project, particularly the lengthy makeup process needed for Luna Maya’s transformation.

Set in the 1980s — And No Sundel Bolong Yet

One of the most surprising elements of the film is its 1980s setting. Even more interesting, audiences will not immediately see the famous Sundel Bolong form associated with Suzzanna.

Instead, this film acts as a prequel, revealing the tragic journey that eventually leads Suzzanna toward the dark path that made her legendary.

Luna Maya explained that her character experiences profound suffering that ultimately pushes her to make a life-altering decision.

Synopsis: Revenge, Black Magic, and Love

The story centers on Suzzanna, a woman secretly loved by Bisman, a ruthless and power-hungry village ruler. Driven by ambition, Bisman uses black magic to curse Suzzanna’s father, leading to his death.

The tragedy ignites a burning desire for revenge within Suzzanna. Determined to fight back, she begins learning the forbidden art of black magic.

However, as her revenge plot unfolds, she discovers that Bisman’s power is far greater and more dangerous than she ever imagined.

Amid this emotional turmoil, Suzzanna unexpectedly falls in love with Pramuja, a devout and kind-hearted man who knows nothing about her dark secret.

She now faces a heartbreaking dilemma:
continue pursuing vengeance, or risk everything for love.

A Cast of Stars Across Generations

The film also features a strong supporting cast from different generations of Indonesian actors. Alongside Luna Maya and Reza Rahadian, audiences will see performances by Djenar Maesa Ayu, Clift Sangra, Iwa K, Yatti Surachman, Adi Bing Slamet, Aziz Gagap, and Ence Bagus.

The screenplay is written by Jujur Prananto together with Sunil Soraya and Ferry Lesmana, promising a compelling and emotionally driven story.

The Next Indonesian Horror Blockbuster?

Considering the massive success of its predecessors—each attracting millions of viewers—expectations for Suzzanna: Santet Dosa di Atas Dosa are incredibly high.

With its darker storyline, epic visuals, emotional conflict, and star-studded cast, the film has all the ingredients to become the next big horror blockbuster in Indonesia.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters during Lebaran 2026, so horror lovers should mark their calendars. This time, Suzzanna’s story promises to be darker, deeper, and more chilling than ever.
