The use of changing names each year is part of the 2024-2026 FFI Committee’s effort to reintroduce the contributions of Indonesian filmmakers who have shaped the country’s cinematic history.

This year, the event also featured the return of the Antemas Trophy for the highest-grossing film in cinemas, an award presented since the 1980s to films that achieved the largest audience numbers. This year’s Indonesian film industry was further enlivened by a variety of genres, ranging from horror to drama, comedy, and even horror-comedy, all of which won the hearts of Indonesian audiences.

Since its inception in 1955, the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) has been a barometer for the quality development of Indonesian cinema. Through the awards presented, both the public and the film community can recognize the best achievements of Indonesian filmmakers over the past year. The 2024 FFI carries the theme Merandai Cakrawala Sinema Indonesia (Exploring the Horizon of Indonesian Cinema), aiming to create a space for collaboration in building a more creative, innovative, inclusive, and productive Indonesian film ecosystem. The 2024 FFI also marks the beginning of Ario Bayu’s leadership with the FFI 2024-2026 Committee.

“Hopefully, the films and filmmakers who win the Citra Trophy FFI 2024 will serve as benchmarks for the future of Indonesian cinema, and inspire even better works in the years to come,” said Ario Bayu, Chairman of the FFI 2024-2026 Committee.
